Our Voice is an employment preparation program for young people (ages 15 -18) that offers a unique learning experience to at-risk youth of the Wide Bay.
Over a period of 10 weeks, the program helps them build confidence in themselves with the goal of finding employment.
Participants are required to attend Our Voice sessions three days a week (Tue-Thu / 10am-2pm) for 10 weeks at one of the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre community centres.
Additional to the provision of transport and lunch, participants can expect to cover topics such as emotional intelligence, teamwork, leadership (taking initiative), creativity & innovation, communication & presentation skills, problem solving & decision-making skills, and skills for success.
This is a community-driven solution that links industry, education and potential employees, using a flexible, place-based model. Guest speakers also present throughout the program to share their personal stories, offer supportive employment/work experience opportunities and provide mentoring to help develop the participants’ positive network.
Participants are offered work placement opportunities, taken on industry visits and given the chance to interact with experienced guest speakers.
